Festina Lente Equestrian Centre provides private horse riding lessons for children or adults with special needs throughout the week in a safe, professional and enjoyable environment.
Our coaching and supports are tailored to the learning style and mental, emotional and physical ability of the individual and we have specialised riding saddles and equipment for persons with various disabilities. All our coaches and horses are very experienced and have been specially trained to work with persons with special needs.
Our Equestrian Centre Facilities
We strive to be a centre of excellence with a strong emphasis on equitation science learning and training as well as excellent horse welfare standards.
We have a large purpose built floodlit indoor arena (24m x 60m) with a viewing gallery as well as outdoor arenas and outdoor riding paddocks so you don’t have to worry about the weather.
What is involved in a Lesson?
Our highly experienced and qualified coaches work on the basis of positive reinforcement and where appropriate, use a range of learning aids with an emphasis on fun and learning.
Lessons can be every week or alternate weeks, whichever suits you best and we have a variety of payment options for persons booking multiple lessons.
We also have our mechanical horse “Troy” which can be used for a variety of reasons, to focus on a particular area for improvement and learning, for people who are nervous of horses but want to learn how to ride or for people who are above our maximum weight limit.
Persons with Down Syndrome must be tested for Atlantoaxial Instability prior to commencing lessons.
Therapeutic Riding Lessons
We also offer Therapeutic Riding Lessons. Therapeutic horse riding is a multi area therapy which is used for children and adults with a variety of physical, cognitive, emotional and developmental disabilities. Therapeutic Riding has been recognised for decades to improve physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioural and educational skills as well as being a healthy and fun activity. Please note all therapeutic riders must have a referral letter from their doctor prior to commencing therapeutic lessons with Festina Lente. Persons with Down Syndrome must also be tested for Atlantoaxial Instability.
