What should my child wear and what should they bring with them?

Festina Lente Walled Garden Policy on Social Inclusion for Camps and Workshops

Festina Lente as an organisation provides a wide range of programmes, activities, camps and workshops for children and young people with varying abilities. These are provided in both the Equestrian Center and the Walled Garden.

There are a range of programmes which have been designed specifically for children and young people with learning or physical difficulties, medical needs and/or other support needs. There are also a range of mainstream activities / programmes which may be suitable for children and young people with learning or physical difficulties and other support needs.

Our experience to date tells us that an integrated approach works extremely well and benefits all children and young people. The level of support that is required by each child and young person is always taken into consideration as to which activity or programme will ensure his/her safety, enjoyment, learning and well-being. It may be possible for Festina Lente to provide this support within the programme ratio or to engage an additional staff member.

Festina Lente’s ability to provide additional support will be evaluated on a case by case basis. In this case there may be an additional cost. It may also be possible for a parent or other person known to the child or young person to provide this support.

When registering your child for a camp or workshop we ask if your child has any additional support needs. If this is the case, we ask that you contact us in the first instance before booking to discuss the proposed camp \ workshop and support needs that are necessary in order that your child can successfully participate in the camp or workshop.

In the event that support needs are not disclosed to Festina Lente prior to the camp or workshop date and we do not have adequate staffing in place such that all children and young people can be looked after in an acceptable manner, it may be necessary to contact the child or young person’s parent to request that they are collected. Though this would be a last resort and one which we would try and avoid in all circumstances, the safety of all children and young people is our priority. Adequate programme ratios must be ensured to manage the well-being of all the children and young people. In such instances, no refunds will be made and any additional costs incurred including transport will be at the parent’s/guardians expense.

We will send a follow up questionnaire for each child booked.  Please note that for health and safety reasons all medical, behavioural extra support needs, allergies must be told to us in the questionnaire prior to arrival at Festina Lente.
