Festina Lente is delighted to announce our Community Fun Day on 6th May 2019 from 11am-4pm

We will have a variety of fun free tours and workshops throughout the day and all are welcome to attend. Come along and have a picnic in our beautiful walled gardens anytime during the day!

We do ask that you only book one workshop or tour please. Workshops and tours must be booked in advance via Eventbrite

Tours of Festina Lente Walled Victorian Gardens

Old Connaught House, Shankill, Co. Dublin is an eighteenth century house that was embellished during Victorian times with the addition of a single storey portico consisting of four pairs of Ionic columns and a conservatory at one end of the house. It was a property of the Gore family and subsequently the Plunket family. The walls around the Festina Lente garden are the original walls from 1780’s.

• Ideal for children and adults
• Suitable footwear should be worn i.e. no sandals or open toe shoes
• Duration of each tour: one hour
• Maximum in a group is 20 people
• Tour will be starting at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm

Social and Therapeutic Gardening Workshops
Social and therapeutic horticulture (STH)\ Gardening or Nature Based Therapies involve the use of plants, horticultural activities and the garden landscape to promote well-being for its participants. STH is particularly relevant for the promotion of independence, health and well-bring amongst individuals and groups.

This workshop will explore the benefit of gardening for the promotion of well-being amongst people from all backgrounds, interests and abilities.

• No experience of horticulture\gardening is necessary
• Ideal for children and adults
• Suitable footwear should be worn i.e. no sandals or open toe shoes
• Duration of each workshop: one hour
• Two groups of 6 people
• Workshops will be starting at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm

Equine Assisted Learning Workshops
Equine Assisted Learning is a process where people work with horses to develop their social and emotional well-being and includes areas such as communications, decision making, teamwork and self and social awareness

This workshop will explore the benefit of equine assisted learning for the promotion of well-being amongst people from all backgrounds, interests and abilities

• No experience of horses is required and there is no horse riding involved
• This is suitable for children over the age of 10 years of age and for adults
• Maximum in a group is 6 people
• Suitable footwear should be worn i.e. no sandals or open toe shoes
• Duration of each workshop: one hour
• Workshops will be starting at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm

Vaulting Workshops
Vaulting is an activity which involves up to 12 people.

The focus of this activity is to involve families and individuals in a vaulting session. The session starts with preparing the horse with all the necessary equipment. Then the group will do some vaulting exercises on the barrel to give you an idea of the exercises that are done on the horse. After this, we will move working with the horse when some of the group will sit on the vaulting horse and all of us play a number of games that are regularly used when people are learning about vaulting. The vaulting session great fun – involves the whole family and friends and also great exercises !.

As part of the workshop we will give a 6 minutes demonstration from one of our existing vaulters.

• No experience of horses is required with some of the group riding as part of the session
• This is suitable for children over the age of 7 years of age and for adults
• Maximum in a group is 12 people
• Suitable footwear should be worn i.e. no sandals or open toe shoes
• Duration of each workshop: two hours
• Workshops will be starting at 11am and 2pm
