These Services are funded through state agencies such as the HSE, POBAL, the KWETB and the

DEASP, as well as public donations and commercial income from our Garden Shop and Equestrian


Job Title: Equestrian Center Yard Manager
Contract Type: Full-time Contract of Employment

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Liaising with: Equestrian Center Manager
Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

The Festina Lente Equestrian Center provides a wide range of equine-based activities to
approximately 300 young people, teenagers and adults each week. These activities include group
lessons, private lessons, therapeutic lessons and a wide range of equine facilities activities wide range
of equine facilities activities, which are provided to people affected by socio economic disadvantage
and/or disability. There is a team of 7 Equestrian Coaches, 2 program facilitators, 5 junior staff,
administrative and maintenance support team and 36 equines who collectively contribute to smooth
running of the Equestrian Center

Job Purpose
The overall purpose of the role of Yard Manager is to ensure the co-ordination of all equine-based
activities on a day-to-day basis such that all timetabled activities can be provided smoothly and
professionally whilst at the same time taking due care and consideration for equine welfare.
Key responsibilities:
Timetabled Activities
 Overseeing the allocation of all equines to the range of equine based
 Ensuring that equines are prepared and available for each activity
 Preparation of a daily timetable detailing equines allocated for each
activity including turn time
 Liaising with accounts and administrative staff in relation to client
accounts as may be necessary
 Ensuring lessons and various activities run according to timetables and deal
promptly with any changes that may occur.
 Creating timetables for staff/volunteers
Human Resources
 Supervision of Equestrian Center Junior Staff, helpers, work experience
placements and volunteers
 Ensuring that inductions are completed and for all helpers, work
experience placements and volunteers
 Conducting Probationary Review Meetings with Junior Staff
 Ensure that all Human Resource Policies and Procedures are implemented
 To develop a positive and professional relationship with all staff working
within the Equestrian Center and across the organisation
Equine Welfare
 Liaising with vets, chiropractors, dentist, farrier and other ancillary
support professions in response to equine welfare and management
 Keeping records of all treatments given to horses
 Ensuring that hours worked for all equines is based on fairness, individual
equine welfare and nature of the specific activity and where necessary
discuss necessary changes with each staff member
 Ensure that maximum turn out time is made available for all equines
 To ensure equine welfare on the basis of equine cognition and learning

 Ensuring that there are sufficient supplies available e.g. feed, hay and that
supplies are ordered in a timely and cost effective manner
 To make an annual table of the supplies and their costs
 Ensure that financial procedures are followed in relation to all purchases
 Updating accounts of proposed purchases for cash flow purposes
 Review regular review of suppliers to ensure best value for money

Health and Safety
 To implement the procedures as outlined in the current Safety Statement
 To ensure that changes to the documented procedures as outlined in the
Safety Statement are reported to the HR Manager who will updated
 To ensure that risk assessments are conducted / carried out for
occasional/once off activities that are not included in the Safety Statement
 Comply with all Covid 19 safety procedures

Essential requirements the person must meet are as follows:
 Qualification in a relevant area e.g. Equine Studies,
 Minimum of two years full time experience in a similar role
 Highly organised
 Conscientious
 Ability to work to deadlines
 Solution focused
 Willingness to learn and an openness to alternative approaches
 An ability to maintain calm and composed in a busy and demanding environment
 Good communicator and interpersonal skills
 Proven ability to work on own initiative within a flexible, co-operative team structure.
 Fluent English is required

Desirable requirements are as follows:
 Full drivers licence
 Coaching qualification
 Competent at lunging
Salary: 28,000 – 32,000 euro
Hours: 39 hours per week
Pension: Employees have access to PRSA scheme.
Working Week: Sunday to Thursday
Working Hours: 39 hours per week
Travel & Subsistence: A fleet of vehicles is available. However, there may be a requirement from
time to time to travel in your own vehicle. If and when these occasions arise, expenses will be paid in
accordance with Festina Lente travel rates.
Annual Leave: Annual Leave will be 22 days per annum. Entitlement to Public Holidays will be in
accordance with the Working Time Act of 1997 (pro rata). Compulsory Leave must be taken at:
 Easter (School Holidays)
 August (School Holidays)
 Christmas (School Holidays)
