Grow Your Own Vegetables, Herbs & Fruits Workshops 2020

Festina Lente Victorian Walled Gardens & Garden Centre are delighted to be able to offer a series of gardening workshops presented by our qualified horticulturists in 2020.

If you would love to grow herbs, fruits and vegetables in your allotment or garden successfully but you are not sure how best to go about it, then these are the workshops for you!

You will gain the knowledge and skills to successfully grow vegetables, fruits and herbs, learn what works for your kitchen garden, what not to grow and what you can grow to supply your family with fresh produce for the whole year.

Our experienced Horticulturists will deliver the workshops in theinformal and enjoyable setting of Festina Lente Walled Gardens in Bray.

These are practical courses as well learning theory. All seeds and tools are supplied as part of the course.  All Attendees also get 10% off Garden Plants & Tools from our Garden Centre on the day of the Workshops!

Visit our Garden Centre where we sell a variety of plants, seeds, bulbs, garden equipment and matured horse manure.

Festina Lente is a non-profit charity and all profits from these workshops go to the upkeep of the gardens and providing opportunities for people with disabilities.

Workshop 1

Vegetable Growing
Understand the nutrients that vegetables need to successfully grow.
Classification of vegetables and the families they belong to.
Produce a crop rotation.

Workshop 2

Potato Growing
Correct timing and harvesting potatoes.
Understand timing of planting both onions and garlic to crop twice a year.
Be able to plant out seed potatoes and onions into allotment or garden.
Plant potatoes using containers.

Workshop 3

Growing from Seeds 

Sow a variety of seed undercover.
Sow seed in the open ground and on your plot or garden.

Workshop 4

Weed Maintenance of Kitchen Gardens
Understand annual and perennial weeds.
Various approaches to weed control.
Catch Cropping.

Workshop 5

Green Manure
How to condition your soil for the Winter.
Methods of propagation.
Grapes, Roses & Kiwi Herbaceous plants.

Workshop 6

Fruit Growing for the Kitchen Garden
Methods used in the growing of Fruit
Identify and plant a variety of Soft Fruit and top fruit

The Workshops for the Kitchen Gardener series in 2020 is only €95 for the seven Workshops.  We do not offer the workshops individually – they must be purchased as a series of seven.

  • Cancellations 3 weeks before start date – €25 administration fee.
  • Cancellations 2 weeks before start date – €50 administration fee.
  • Cancellations 1 weeks before start date – no refunds.
  • Date swaps are allowed where available.
